- 10-12 apples (quartered, I use honeycrisp and granny smith)
- 1 pomegranate (quartered (optional))
- 1 orange (quartered)
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon sticks
- 2-6 tablespoons maple syrup (depending on your taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
Combine apples, pomegranate, orange, cinnamon sticks, and 2 tablespoons maple syrup in a crockpot. Add 5-6 cups of water to cover ingredients. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 4-5 hours.
Alternatively, combine all ingredients in a large soup pot and cook over medium heat for 3 hours, or until apples begin to break down.
Carefully strain the mixture through a mesh strainer, discarding the fruit and cinnamon sticks. Strain again if a smoother cider is desired.
Taste the cider and adjust maple syrup to your preference. Serve warm or cold. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
- Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for a balanced flavor profile.
- Adjust maple syrup to your personal preference; start with less and add more as needed.
- For a deeper spice flavor, add a few star anise or cloves along with the cinnamon sticks.
